Dear parents and carers,
As part of our Science and PSHE curriculum, the children will be learning about puberty, conception, childbirth, and relationships. Within this, we will be focusing on the following areas:
- Begin by building on last year’s puberty topic and learning how the male and female body changes and how a baby is made.
- Looking at what makes a healthy relationship and what this means at an age appropriate level for the children.
- A big focus on and discussions surrounding the influence of social media and how to deal with the pressures that come with this.
This learning will all take place during the week of 24th June. Most of the work will be done in classes but children will also have the opportunity to go into gender groups to ask any questions they might have. We will only be using the correct scientific vocabulary as this is part of the statutory science curriculum and a lot of this will be discussion based.
On Wednesday 19th June, at 5:00 pm, we will be holding a parent meeting in the school hall where we will show you the slides and resources we will use with the children. This will give you the opportunity to see exactly what we teach the children so you can support this learning at home. We kindly ask that due to the nature of this meeting, the children do not attend. This will also allow you to ask any questions you might have about what we will be covering.
If you would like to attend our parent meeting, please return the slip below by Friday 14th June so we have a clear idea of numbers.
Thank you for your continued support.
