Emergency School Closure
Emergency School Closure: Information & Guidance for Parents
We want to work in partnership with parents and carers to ensure the safety of children at all times. These guidelines outline the procedures for dealing with emergency school closures.
Considerations for closure will include the following:
- Current weather conditions and weather forecast
- Police advice on travelling (including the safety of walking and cycling to school)
- Loss of site utilities
- Availability of teaching staff
- Availability of key non-teaching staff (e.g. support, premises and catering)
- Safety of the site
- External issues
If the school is to be closed before the start of school
We will make every effort to inform parents and carers before 7.30am. This includes texting and emailing parents, updating the website (www.beechwoodjuniorschool.co.uk), contacting the media and informing Southampton Local Authority (they hold details of all local school closures).
Closing the school early during the day
The school will do its utmost to remain open during the school day but if the decision is made to close the school early we will contact parents first by text. The website will be updated informing parents/carers to collect children. If any pupils remain onsite we will telephone the contact numbers held in our school database.
Please ensure any changes to contact details are informed to the school office including mobile numbers, home and work daytime telephone numbers and e-mail addresses.
