Beechwood Needs You! – Would you like to join our Parent Reader Team?
At Beechwood teaching children to become confident and proficient readers has always been one of our top priorities. For many years our reading results have shown that we are one of the very top performing schools in Southampton. Reading regularly to an adult has been shown to really increase the rate of progress children can make with reading and over the years the Beechwood Parent Readers have made a huge difference for a large number of children.
As there are many of you who bring your children to school we were hoping there would be some parents/grandparents/carers who would enjoy coming into school for the first 30 minutes of the morning to listen to some children read. Typically, you will work one-to-one with 2/3 children, spending ten minutes with each child talking about the book they are reading and listening to them read. You will work with the same children each week, getting to know them and watching them progress. Ideally, you would be able to come in twice a week but if you can only do once a week that is fine too. We will be providing an initial training session on Thursday 29th September 2pm-3pm in the staff room when you will be able to find out all you need to know about how it works.
If you would like some further information before you feel you can volunteer please pop into the school or phone me for a chat. If you would like to volunteer please complete the slip below and return it to me via the school office.
I look forward to hearing from you.
