The local NHS services here for your family this holiday season
Pharmacists are experts on medicines and can offer advice on treating coughs, colds, sore throats and many other minor illnesses and injuries. But did you know, with our minor ailments service, your child is eligible to receive free medication for many conditions without having to visit a GP.
You must be registered with a Southampton GP practice and eligible for free prescriptions to receive medication free of charge using the minor ailments service (children are eligible for free prescriptions if they are under 16 or aged 16 – 18 and in full time education). A list of the illnesses and injuries you can receive medication for, along with pharmacies providing the service, is on our website.
Southampton pharmacy opening times for the Christmas and New Year bank holidays are also available on our website.
If someone in the family needs medical help or advice and isn’t sure where to go, phone 111 first. NHS 111 is a fast and easy way to get the right medical help, whatever the time. The service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and calls are free from landlines and mobile phones.
The 111 service is staffed by a team of fully trained advisers, supported by experienced nurses and paramedics. 111 advisers will find the right local health service for you by asking questions to assess your symptoms. They will then give you the healthcare advice you need or direct you straightaway to the local service that can help you best. Find out more about the NHS 111 service.
