Dear parents and carers,
As an ending to our Year 6 World War 2 topic, we will be having a themed day on Wednesday 22nd May. We would like as many children as possible to come to school in 1940s style school uniform and to be prepared for air raids and a possible evacuation (gas mask box and suitcase if possible).
In the afternoon, we would also like to invite you to our Tea Dance. The children have been having dance lessons and will be asking for dancing partners at this event, so make sure you wear your dancing shoes! This event will start at 1.30p.m and end at 3.00p.m. Please fill in the reply slip below if you would like to attend the Tea Dance so we can ensure a seat is reserved for you. I am afraid that if you do not return the slip then you will not be allocated any seats as we need to ensure we keep the numbers to a safe level. Due to having three classes in the year group, we can only guarantee you two seats per child until Monday 13th May. After this date, any extra required seats will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis from the forms we have received in school. If you receive any extra seats you will be contacted after the above date.
At 3pm, the children will be ‘evacuated’ and travel via train to a holding post where they will stay overnight (the school hall – but don’t tell them!) and be looked after by our very own ‘Billeting Officer’ and his assistants. This is a wonderful experience for all of the children and they always thoroughly enjoy it so it would be great if your child would like to get involved! They will need clothes to stay overnight, toothbrushes, etc, sleeping equipment and clothes (school uniform) for the next day. As there were no mobile phones, or other handheld technology, during the 1940s please ensure that your child leaves these safely at home, if we need to contact you we will use the phone numbers on the school’s system. If your child normally has a packed lunch, please either send it in on Friday morning or with your child on the day of the tea dance/evacuation and we will keep it in the fridge overnight.
As this is an optional extra-curricular activity, we do ask for £5 per child to help cover the cost of food provided and the cost of the wartime transport! Unfortunately, children who do not contribute the £5 towards this event will not be able to be evacuated or stay the night at school. If there are any concerns about this please come and speak to your child’s class teacher as soon as possible.
Thank you for your continued support.
