We have decided to develop an Outdoor Learning Zone using an area of woodland on Glenfield Infant School’s grounds. There is a lot of research supporting how spending time in a natural environment helps to develop children’s independence, resilience and risk management. Your child will be taking part in 5 Wednesday afternoon sessions over the next half term at our Outdoor Learning Zone as part of our trial year.
The dates that your child is scheduled to have their Outdoor Learning Zone sessions are: 11th September, 18th September, 25th September, 2nd October and 9th October.
As the sessions will run in almost all weathers, including the rain, we will supply your child with a waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers and wellington boots for the sessions. However, please could you supply a change of named clothes, including full length trousers or leggings, in a named bag that your child is comfortable and warm in and can get muddy. This needs to include a spare pair of socks which can be worn in wellington boots.
Each afternoon session will involve everyone getting kitted up and ready to go, walking to Glenfield carrying the equipment and water that we will need for the session, taking part in a woodland activity, having a drink of water and a biscuit, having free time to explore the natural space, playing a group game and walking back to Beechwood for the end of the day.
