Year 5 Trip to Butser Ancient Farm – 11th September 2018

Year 5 Trip to Butser Ancient Farm – 11th September 2018

To begin our Year 5 topic, ‘Age of the Invaders’ on the Celts, Romans, Saxons and Vikings, we have arranged an exciting visit to Butser Ancient Farm, located at Butser Hill, near Petersfield on Tuesday 11th September 2018.  The children will spend the whole day at the Village, exploring the many reconstructed Iron Age and Roman buildings on the farm, looking at farming life in early Britain and carrying out some fun activities, ranging from archaeology to jewellery making.

We will travel to and from the farm by bus.  Because it is a very full day of activities, the bus will need to leave the school by 9.00am and will not return until 3.00pm. The children do not need to wear school uniform but as they will be working outside and walking over rough and possibly muddy ground, they should wear sensible trainers or other walking shoes, and, if it is wet, they should also bring wellies.  They should wear suitable clothes and must bring a waterproof coat/jacket if wet weather or hat and have suncream on if hot!

The children should also bring a packed lunch and a drink in a suitable bag.  Those children who normally receive free school meals will be provided with a packed lunch, however, we would ask that you indicate this on the reply slip, please.  Please do not give your child any spending money as we will not be visiting the shop and they will not have an opportunity to buy anything. If your child has any special medical or other needs, please ensure their class teacher is aware of these.

We are asking for a contribution of £19.00 per child to cover the costs of the trip. Please pay by cash/cheque (cheques made payable to Beechwood Junior School. Online payments for this trip will not be available until September). If insufficient contributions are received, unfortunately, this visit may need to be cancelled.

We realise that this is an expensive trip but feel it is very worthwhile.   If you would like to pay for this trip in instalments, please indicate this on the reply slip below and return to the office with the first instalment. However, please be aware that the trip will need to be paid for in full by Monday 10th September 2018.

Please complete the reply slip below and return it to the School Office, together with payment, by Monday 10th September 2018.

Yours sincerely
